Writers Workshop in Santa Cruz 5/21-5/22

Post by Nathan Bransford » May 7th, 2011, 5:42 pm

HI all, just wanted to let you know that I’ll be presenting at a writers' workshop this May 21-22 in Santa Cruz: “The New World of Publishing: The New Rules for Developing Ideas and Finding Your Audience” led by Laura Davis and Janet Goldstein.

Here's the website: http://www.GetPublishedSantaCruz.com

I met Janet Goldstein at the San Miguel Writer’s Conference where we were both presenting last year, and she’s responsible for my YouTube video debut on pitching your work. She’s a fantastic publishing strategist and former editorial executive who has developed and launched many landmark and bestselling books from David Allen’s Getting Things Done to Barbara Kingsolver’s first five books including The Bean Trees. Laura Davis is a writing teacher and the life-changing author of The Courage to Heal and many other best-selling books.

Here's more info on the conference:
Janet and Laura have designed this 2-day intensive to combine up-to-the-minute information on the current state of publishing world with hands-on exercises, interactive elements, Q&A, and live coaching so you can begin to test, hone, and “pitch” your work and make a personalize publishing plan to fit you, your book, your goals. The workshop will cover:

1. Your Idea - including Janet’s hallmark “8 Ingredients of a Good Idea” and her brand- new Daisy Model for taking projects from “good” to GREAT, and fresh perspectives on book proposals, titles, and other editorial goodness.

2. Your Platform – what it is, why you need one, and how to start right now in a way that fits you and your audience. (Don’t worry. Everyone has a place to start.)

3. Your Publishing Pathway –introducing all 4 pathways: *ebooks * print-on-demand * self-publishing * traditional publishing (major houses & boutique), including when and why each pathway is good and how they world together.

4. Your Plan – there will be time for “burst writing” and step-by-step planning to take away the overwhelm and to capture and affirm your personal commitments that come from your big ahas of the workshop.
I hope you'll join me, Janet Goldstein, Laura Davis and the other publishing experts who will be there to share their wisdom and advice.

Also, they're offering a special discount:

"If you register this week before May 14, Janet and Laura are making a bring-a-friend-for-free offer to support you at the conference and long after. And there’s a 2-pay option until May 14th too that makes the event even more possible for you to jump-start your next publishing steps"

I can't wait until these things start happening after my quarter ends, and I can actually attend one. :)

This workshop looks amazing. So much fun and good information and interactive stuff. And, of course, a workshop led by you, Nathan.

I'm sure people will have a great experience!
