I read in the late '70's so it's pretty old. Does anyone recognize it?
MC is chosen for a mission because he's totally asocial.
He's put on a ship and aimed him at a black hole.
His bureaucrat handler beams his own personality into the ship's AI.
MC goes in the black hole...blah....Mc comes out.
MC lands on Earth centuries later

Definitely not a children's book. It's serious sci-fi and somewhere between 600 and 800 pages long. I guess it's more obscure than I thought.

hmm tricky. It sounds a bit like one of the Ender books, but not quite.
