Nook now $149

Post by Nathan Bransford » June 21st, 2010, 11:24 am

Barnes & Noble is offering a lower-price Nook electronic reader with a Wi-Fi connection and it's cutting the price on the original Nook reader, the bookseller said Monday.

The Nook Wi-Fi is available now for $149 online at nook.com and bestbuy.com.

The company is lowering the price for its original Nook, which has both 3G and Wi-Fi, from $259 to $199.

That undercuts the $259 Kindle sold by Amazon.com, Nook's top competitor.

Well, that came about just a little late for Father's Day, now didn't it?

I wish there was someplce to go to do a side-by-side comparison of these readers.

@rlouisscott Not sure if this will help, but here's a review of some e-readers.

@Nathan Did you see this fab article from The Mixed Up files blog about The One Laptop per Child project to bring affordable ($75!) e-readers to kids worldwide? Awesome.

I wonder if someday they'll give these things away for free.

That's sort of what Amazon is doing by making their Kindle app available for the I-Pad. Unless Microsoft paid Amazon for the application - that seems like a long-shot, though.

Nah, I think Amazon is just going for as wide a distribution of their platform as possibly. Makes it easier for them to sell ebooks.
