Ooooh, just a quick nitpick and I think you're golden! In the first sentence of your plot summary, that "when" clause is dependent, so you need a comma instead of a semicolon. Otherwise, this looks fantastic. Good luck!

I feel the need to jump in to this active vs passive debate. My understanding of an active sentence is that the subject of the sentence is the one taking the action. Therefore, in the sentence she is informed, she is not the one taking the action, she is the one receiving the action and the sentence is passive. In the sentence, she learns about whatever...she is doing the action of learning, therefore the sentence is in an active form. And I also understand this - active=good. That said there are circumstances where the passive form can be used to show the character's helplessness or passiveness in a certain situation.
