My Mind Is Made Up: I'm Unanimous About It

Post by polymath » September 17th, 2011, 10:53 am

I'm unanimous about it, or is it magnanimous? Here's my opinion: Everyone else is wrong about everything, whatever it is, all and in part and in synergy, unless it precisely in every conceivable and unconceived particular and whole agrees with me and mine: kin, kith, kit, and kine. My worldview is the only one and all of you-all hereabouts and elsewhere and elsewhen and for all the cosmos' time-space continuum ought best adapt, or is it adopt, it, whether you know it or not--ignorance of it is an unacceptable justification--or else we'll have words, to say the least.

No, not really. Foolin', you know. Just noticing in particular at this moment there's a raging gamut of proposed opinions coming forth posing as imperative assertions to be abided at penalty of eternal regret and forever persecution, or is it punishment, going around from every source with some kind of platform from which to pontificate to willing and gullible followers, and, re: anyone not abiding the directive(s).

Me, here it is: I'll make up my own directives, definitions, rules, principles, etc., make up my own mind as I see fit, ever conscious, critical, and conscientious that there will be consequences, even for the benefits to the greater good and myself, not alone evildoings, and opposition and resistance to acknowledgement, approval, and acclaim and application for my just and due desserts and of my rewards, thank you very much.

If it takes a village to raise a child, a village will as likely mess one up.

* "My Mind Is Made Up: I'm Unanimous About It" paraphrase from a gag line periodically uttered by Betty Slocum, character, of the British situation comedy Are You Being Served. (No. I'm being told to be, act, feel, think as someone else believes I oughta for their own good.)

I'm giving myself permission to break the "no adverbs" rule.

I'm cropper
An adverb dropper
I'm a mad head hopper
I do my writing on the run

I'm a dancer
A "he said" enhancer
I'm a dyed-in-wool pantser
I don't mean to hurt no one...

"This above all: to thine own self be true."

BTW, I absolutely LOVE Mrs. Slocombe! She's the bomb! Molly Sugden is a genius with her character.

Polymath.

You remind of a friend I have who is constantly making me feel inferior. He's an editor, writer, journalist guy who understand more than I, and speaks in a way that gives me a headache. Once, during a surfing road trip, I pulled over abruptly, and said, "Listen! If you don't stop talking that way. I'm going to drop you off right here." I was kidding of course, after that he spoke a little more elementary just for me.
My love of fly fishing and surfing connects me to rivers and the ocean. Time with water reminds me to pursue those silly little streams of thought that run rampant in my head.

Good on you. You didn't allow someone else to impose his worldview on you.

Well, I've always been the type to do whatever the heck I wanted regardless of what others say.

I'm sure I've caused many headaches, heartbreaks, and grey hairs through the years.

In the old days they would take the child and raze a village.

Now, that's amusing, though tragic, and a larger truth underlies the humor. Delightful.
