Indigo Kobo

Post by longknife » August 30th, 2011, 2:47 pm

I just read something from my publisher that Amazon won't list their books because they're a Canadian publisher and considered "foreign"! Dontcha love it?

Anyhow, she said their titles will be listed in Indigo Kobo "this Fall."

For the first time ever, I checked it out and it doesn't seem that bad at all. The only thing I don't see is a form of tagging to draw readers directly to one's book.

She also indicated that my book is downloadable to ANY e-reader, including desktops and laptops.

Now, I just have to find a better way of publicizing it!!!

Are you talking about an e-book? National boundaries in e-book-land are even messier than with print books. At least with print books, the book physically goes through Customs.

There's a lot of uproar from people accustomed to the "world-wide" nature of the 'Net when they find out that e-books aren't available internationally. But at the moment, that's the way it is. Here's an article from Diesel E-books about the problems of territorial publishing and distribution rights: http://blog.diesel-ebooks.com/?p=184

Also, be aware that Canada has a law (the Investment Canada Act) that severely restricts the sale of American books and e-books in Canada, and that NAFTA permits the US to retaliate in kind. I don't know if the US has or not.

Kobo's e-books can not be read on a Kindle. Amazon stands alone among e-reader makers in declaring that no outside DRMed e-books can be used. Which is one reason I bought something other than a Kindle.

On the Authors & Staff Yahoo Group, the editor just said her books ARE available on Amazon - so I asked her why mine wasn't!!!
