It is hilarious! But it is pretty glib. If you don't like that brand of funny, you won't like Good Omens, even if the story is great. Which it is. It has the best first chapter I've ever read. It reminds me a lot of the writing in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so if you have read that and liked it, you'll love Good Omens to death.trixie wrote:I have Good Omens on my shelf at home. Diva, THANK YOU for your honest review of GoT! Now if I can only find 4 more hours in the day to get everything done. First on the list though? One Jacob Wonderbar.

Re: Summer Book Recs?
Ok, So I have to say that everyone must start reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver RIGHT NOW! If you read YA, it's the best one I've read in years.
I just finished in my pile:
Divergent by Veronica Roth (excellents)
The Magicians by Lev Grossman (Ehh. I guess this is what an example of how a book with a weak protagonist makes you feel)
Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn (Great if you like historical fiction, and she has the most interesting way of writing dialogue)
Ice by Sarah Beth Durst (The 3rd book based on the same folk tale that I've read. It's an interesting study)
Now for the rest of my pile:
The Forest of Hands and teeth By Carrie Ryan
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Fire by Kristin Cashore
American Gods by Neil Gaiman (I have to read it to see what everyone is talking about)
Extraordinary by Nancy Werlin
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
Firelight by Sophie Jordan
Secret Society by Tom Dolby
Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffeneger
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
And that's only the start! Have you guys read these? what do you think?

Re: Summer Book Recs?
CharleeVale,
I agree with you on Divergent. I just finished it. Amazing.
Off your TBR list, I read Unearthly and Across the Universe and I really liked them. I thought American Gods was ok. The Forest of Hands and Teeth and Halo are also in my TBR pile, but since it is so huge and ever changing, I'm not going to post the entire thing. I am going to attempt to re-read The Hobbit though, and maybe LOTR. Maybe I'll get some of my non-fiction research out of the way.
I have a bunch of mange lined up. My brother is pushing me to read One Piece, which I suppose I'll get around to one of these days. Collectonian, have you read it? And if so, what do you think? I have Death Note and Black Butler on my list.

CharleeVale and Cookie:
I loved Divergent! I think Divergent is my favorite dystopian YA this year.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth is good. It is one of the few YA zombie books out there that make zombies actually scary as hell.
I loved Fire, but not as much as I loved Graceling.
Across the Universe was WONDERFUL. I strongly recommend this book to just about anyone. One of the best endings I've read in a long time.
American Gods - be warned. People who read American Gods either LOVE IT OMG or HATE IT WHAT IS EVERYONE THINKING?!? Few people fall in the middle. I had a hard time getting into it but once I did I loved it. I love Neil Gaiman, but I think American Gods has a different feel than his other writing. I don't know if you've read much of him, but if you read American Gods and you don't like it, try Neverwhere (my favorite) or Good Omens or Coraline. They are VERY different and tend to speak to a wider audience.
The Magicians is on my TBR pile. I got it for christmas a couple years ago but haven't gotten to it.

Re: Summer Book Recs?
Sommer,
Divergent comes in second as my fave of the year. Delirium is in my first place.
Wasn't Graceling amazing? It's the reason I went out and bought Fire.
I look forward to seeing where I fall in the whole 'American Gods' debate.
