Post by CharleeVale » March 30th, 2011, 1:57 pm

I had a post about this in the Social Media section, but I don't think alot of people look in that forum...

I have a contest on my blog right now for a copy of Lauren Destefano's new Dystopian YA book Wither.

Also, there is a secondary, flash fiction writing component that gets you both extra entries and the best story guts a secret prize!

I hope you guys will check it out and enter. :)

I just finished Wither on Sunday and, I'm not kidding, one of the most beautifully written YA dystopian novels I've read all year. Blows them all out of the water with its gorgeous imagery and beautifully complex characters. I kind of wish the bad guy had been a little scarier, but being that this is the first of a trilogy, I expect great and terrible things of him in the books to come.

I know that a lot of people are burning out on dystopian novels, but this one doesn't read like any other. It isn't all grim and gloom and utter devastation. Quite the opposite. No obviously scary government either. Truly unique and well worth reading. I think my favorite thing about Lauren Destefano's writing are these wonderful, unobtrusive details she weaves into the narrative that give every scene a tactile, three dimensional feel. It is too easy to feel like you are living in the moment of the story as it unfolds.

I read mine on Kindle but the cover is one of my favorites of 2011. You should hurry over to Charlee's blog and enter the contest. You want this book! I promise!
May the word counts be ever in your favor. http://www.sommerleigh.com
Be nice, or I get out the Tesla cannon.

I entered the contest and am even considering writing something for another submission. I've seen a lot of good reviews about this book and I'm eager to check it out!

As for readers possibly being over dystopian? That sounds about right seeing as I just started reading it last week. :)
