New Maass Writing Book

Post by Margo » February 3rd, 2011, 10:35 am

I just found out that Donald Maass has another book coming out. I feel bad I didn't know this already. I hope they don't take my Maassketeer ears away!

Anyway, it's called "The Breakout Novelist". The description says it's a collection of the craft and business tips he's come up with over the time he has been teaching his Breakout Novel Workshops. I probably have some of this info, because he hands out sheets at the workshop of things that have come up from student questions at previous workshops. If that's the stuff in the book, it should be great.

Writer's Digest is offering the book on pre-order for $16.49. I haven't checked other sources to compare prices.

I just noticed it ships at the end of this month! Cool! I can ask him to sign my copy when I see him in March at his Fire In Fiction workshop. I'm not usually one to collect author signatures, but I'm going to be there anyway...

Thank you for the heads up, Margo. I'm a great fan of Donald Maass. Although here is another price to compare. It's 15.83USD at Amazon.

It's also a relatively long work, 352 pages. Well, I'm looking forward to read this one.

Squee! New book! Not so squee: budget. I'll find a way, oh yes, I will. XD I have to get my hands on this.

Excellent, thanks for the tip, Guardian.

It looks like B&N is matching the Amazon price. Way to go, B&N.

Maybe start lobbying your local library mercilessly, bribing them with cupcakes and confetti, perhaps?

I'm completely shocked you didn't know about this a year ago Margo! I've been assuming, all this time, that you shared a psychic link with Maass.

Thanks for the heads up :-) Amazon Wishlist here I come.

Is this book new material, or a repackaging of "Writing the Breakout Novel"?

Not that it matters, as I will probably get it for the kindle.

When I went to his Breakout Novel Intensive, he handed out additional Workbook-style material that came from questions and suggestions from his previous workshops. The Writer's Digest description made it sound to me like it was made up of that extra material that had previously only been available if you'd been to one of the more recent intensives, but I could be wrong. If you want to wait about 5 weeks, I can ask him in person and report back.

Margo, you have to report back on everything! I am so hoping you will! I Love his Breakout Novel Workbook. It is such a practical toolkit. I go back to it again and again.

Okay, I will, scout's honor. [does a strange three-fingered sort of salute...kinda thing...meant to look vaguely scoutish...maybe...I think]
