Good Morning Riddle Anyone?

Post by Watcher55 » December 9th, 2010, 8:25 am

There is a common eight-letter word with only one vowel. (the vowel is only used once)

SIGH - the riddler isn't used to being bested.

<WAYNE and GARTH: We're not worthy!>

OK there are two common eight-letter. . . . Oh forget it I just don't have the STRENGTH.

I am sorry!!! I did not mean to best the riddler. I will try my best in the future to not be so awesome.

Strength is definitely more common than Twelfths though.

You might want to use the spoiler button (in fact, I'd like to make that a rule)

There is a clock with a pendulum that, when completely wound will run for exactly 24 hrs. One cycle of the pendulum (over and back) takes 2 seconds. If you wind the clock all the way up and release the pendulum from the top of its first cycle, how many seconds before the pendulum stops?

Watcher55, I look for people smarter than me too, so I can send them a bomb present.

Your clock pendulum stops after one second, at the other end of its first swing.

Speaking of metal, in the 1980s the US Navy held a press conference to announce the reactivation of the WW2 Iowa Class battleships. There were many questions about the ships, particularly about the size and speed and effect of the shells fired by their massive 16 inch guns.

Then one journalist asked what the terminal velocity of such a shell was. The presiding Naval officer answered the question immediately and correctly, but the answer was not what the audience expected. So, guess the terminal velocity of a 16 inch shell fired from an Iowa Class battleship...

I guessed you would get it, Watcher55. You won't need the metal detector. The package will be cylindrical, pointed at one end, weigh over a ton, and have a diameter of 16 inches...

A man stepped up to my counter and pointed behind me. “How much for One?” he asked.

“Thirty cents” I told him

“Alright, how much for 14?”

“Well, that’s 60 cents.”

“Well I need 147.”

“That’ll be 90 cents”

What did the man point at and where do I work?

Hint:
Spoiler:
It wasn't an asbestos chicken

I'm stumped Watcher55, not to mention disturbed by your sudden age reversal and hair growth...

My guess is that the numbers identify different single items rather than quantities of items, but that's as far as I get. Rubber chickens, perhaps? I think asbestos is illegal these days. Three different rubber chickens for $1.80? I'll take 'em! Plus postage and packing, of course.

SHHH, I'm traveling incognito, someone's lobbing 16-inch shells at me.

Oh, and forget about the chickens.
