Writing a query for Creative Nonfiction. Nonfiction or not?

Post by Michael Roland » October 29th, 2010, 7:01 am

Hello,

I have had trouble finding good solid information on writing a query (or choosing agents to query) for creative nonfiction.

In this case think: Zen in the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance or Castaneda's The Teachings of Don Juan (omitting controversy on veracity)

They are not nonfiction as in "How to" nor are they memoirs per se, but more stories, or not?

Obviously confused. Help!

Thanks.

It's basically the same as for a novel query. It's the same mix of introduction, summary of the work, and bio. And in terms of finding agents, I'd just go for agents who seem to represent general nonfiction/memoir.
