Stephen King is on CNNMoney.com today talking about writing and the future of books. He talks mostly about the future of book stores and e-readers. I like listening to his interviews, he's pretty great. I like when he says if you drop a book into the toilet you wipe it off and dry it out. When you drop your e-reader into the toilet, you're done. Hah! Truer words were never spoken.

that's for the link. I can't listen today, but I will! I'm curious as to what he had to say.Sommer Leigh wrote:Stephen King is on CNNMoney.com today talking about writing and the future of books. For the record, though, if I drop a book into the toilet, I really do tend to buy a new book.
Not that I go around dropping books into toilets alot, but I'm just saying.

Hah! I've never dropped a book in the toilet before, but I HAVE dropped a book into the bath tub. It dried to twice its size and was still totally readable.Mira wrote: For the record, though, if I drop a book into the toilet, I really do tend to buy a new book.

Ditto for the number of times I've spilled coffee on books. My APA style manual from college is a wreck. No e-reader can stand up against my clumsiness.

I haven't dropped a book in the toilet (yet!) but I did once drop a mobile phone in one. I dried it out and used it after!
Nathan has repeatedly suggested putting the E-reader in a clear plastic bag to read in the bathtub. But nobody has come up with an answer to the E-reader WW3 EMP problem. I. e. Electromagnetic Pulse from thermonuclear weapons will fry most electronics, but we will still be able to read paper books. Assuming the blast hasn't heated them, or us, to more than the 451 degrees Fahrenheit made famous by Ray Bradbury...
