Starting point

'She gets high on coffee',a colleague used to say. And it's true. Everything moves faster, or just simply moves -as opposed to stands irritating-ly still. The world is full of promices, endless options and beautiful tomorrows. Coffee makes it all ok. Even if it's pouring, even if it's pouring and it's your wedding day, and especially if you have no inspiration whatsoever, you have an article due and you just need to feel like an active writer again, coffee will somehow deliver some amount of gratification. In the very least, it will get you out of your miserably squeaky chair, so you make it or go get it.

Exercise sometimes has the same effect, but having to shower, apply lotion, foot cream and conditioner, drying and admiring your long beautiful hair will delay one enough time to lose the magical inspiration moment. Coffee will at least give you the chance to grab that moment and do something with it. Something that may not be good enough, or rational enough or even relevant, yet something none the less. Could be a starting point for your next,or first, novel. Could be a love letter you should have writen five years ago. Could be a poem, something you would have writen when you were 16 and now think you're way beyond it. Could also be the meaningful diatribe of your unique thoughts/emotions/imagination/life that will get you on the map. Think I just may make myself a cup.
