Dear [Agent],
My name is Clio, I’m a debut author with teetering pile of To Be Read books and a day job that prevents me from devouring them. I found your name on the Manuscript Wishlist and saw that you enjoy locked room mysteries. I would like to submit for your consideration Death Sight, a YA Sci-fi Detective fiction. Complete at approximately 79,000 words, it features a locked room murder, magical realism and a diverse cast of characters.
In the year 2027, a serial killer is roaming the streets of Los Angeles. Leaving behind no clues but a corpse and a signature pentacle drawn in blood, he has detectives spinning in place as they try to find a link between his victims.
When her best friend falls prey to a bullet, Detective Meg Collins must set her badge aside to find the link between his victims and get justice—or revenge. When a sting goes wrong, she must risk the future on a chase to correct the past.
Thank you for your time and consideration, I look forward to seeing your response.

Re: Query: Death Sight
The first paragraph is a little personal. While “a jumbled pile of Must Reads” is a nice touch, the authors are more interested in the project itself. A good letter of intent gets straight to the point.

Ok, so cutting that part out... I can also move my intro para to the bottom.
