Which book have you read the most number of times?

I love reading books again, because I rush through them so fast in the first go.

Pride and Prejudice is mine, without a doubt. I lost count after 8+.

I. Asimov's "Foundation" series, and the "Robot Series: Caves of Steel, etc." Dorothy Dunnett is another author (writes historical fiction set in medieval Europe & Asia in the 15th century) who is excellent to re-read.

Other than a select few, I don't like to re-read books. There are so many new ones to discover.

I never tire of Patrick O'Brien's novels. I have all 19 and re-read them all. He shows you a time in history that far outstrips C.S. Forrester' ability to convey.

I rarely read a book more than once because the joy of discovery wanes. My favorite to re-read has been The Bell Jar. Cheery, I know.

It would be a tie between East of Eden and Jane Eyre. In both cases, I've lost track.

The literal answer to "read the most number of times" would have to be either "Where the Wild Things Are" or something Dr. Seuss (The Lorax or The Cat in the Hat), because those are books that I not only enjoyed numerous times when I was a kid, but read countless times to my own kids.

As far as more grown up reads go, hands down Anton Myrer's The Last Convertible----read it for the first time when I was in high school and have reread it, on average, once every year since. It's not a perfect book, by any means, but it's filled with characters who you feel like you know personally by the time you're done reading (even the first time)---that's a sure way to suck me into a story.

Chronicles of Narnia, at least 20 times each. It what I'm read when I don't want to be reading (like if I'm ill and can't concentrate). It is the book version of comfort food or having the TV on for background noise.

I've not tried "The Alchemist", but I've read "The Devil and Miss Prym" a few times. That man definitely has a gift and the power to make you think way beyond yourself as well as deep inside yourself.

Most of my re-reads are dirty secrets. :)

The two that stand out the most in my mind are Christopher Moore's "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" and Carl Hiaasen's "Strip Tease". Both are excellent and hilarious. Tim Dorsey is re-read worthy as well.

hmmmmm the alchemist by paulo coelho....every time i feel low or think something is unattainable, i grab the book and starts going through it..the book gives me confidence and hope to move on and focus on my dream..

Robert Lynn Aspirin's Myth series--I've read them all equal number of times, at least 6. I'll just get in the mood and sit down and read them all straight through--his charachter development was great fun to watch, and they're just flat out funny. I'm talking about the original series, before his break and getting back into the series. The new ones aren't as crisp.

I would have to guess that for me it's Tamora Pierce's earlier works. The Song of the Lioness quartet, the Immortals Quartet, and the Circle of Magic series. One of them (I can't recall which at the moment) has pages falling out of it. So, yeah. That's my best guess. Although I'm sure I read and re-read Champion Dog Prince Tom and TeeVee Humphrey a bunch when I was little.

The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. My son says it is a book with no plot and yet I find it completly fascinating.
