Re: NFL Sunday Celebrate or Commiserate here.
Yep, Lisa. I've lost interest by halftime of all four games. Oh well. Maybe the Pack can stage a miracle comeback ... ;)

Right now, I'm alternating between "Nine in the Afternoon" by Panic at the Disco, and "That's Entertainment" by the Jam.

THE DEVIL YOU DON'T KNOW query
Ah God. I can't believe I'm doing this! Dear [agent], Burned-out newspaper editor Michael Reed reluctantly takes a call from a disgraced former nun that changes his life forever. The desperate woman’s request that he meet her son sets Michael on a quest to determine the true identity of fifteen-year...

Re: Query confusion (again)
Thanks guys. This helps. You know, I swear the query is harder work than the novel was! I didn't think that was possible.

Query confusion (again)
Color me confused. I wrote my query letter a few weeks ago and posted it on a very well-known writing group's website for critique. It got ripped, although they loved the idea and want to read the book. So I went back and again read everything I could find on agents' blogs (including Nathan's) and e...

Hey Nathan,
Any way to get rid of the irritating porn bots that seem to be taking over the forums? I mean, I like Pamela Anderson as much as the next guy (she's so '90s!), but really ...

Music or quiet when you write?
I was inspired to ask this by the "what are you listening to" thread in All Things Procrastination . It seems a lot of you listen to music while you write. I know Stephen King likes to write with old school rock blasting in his ear. Me, I need quiet to do the actual writing. But music is s...

Re: Men and Fiction
Some of my favorite writers are women (Toni Morrison and Anne Tyler to name two), and I generally don't care who writes a book that I like. If I like it, I buy it. But since I've gotten involved with writer groups, Twitter, Writer's Digest, writer blogs and this site, I have been stunned at how many...

Re: Pure Pain or Pure Ecstasy??
Good question. I just wrote a blog post about this earlier this week! My recently finished (and first, I might add) ms was both very dark and very personal. I ended up drawing a lot from my childhood and adult life to form the crux of my main character's angst (nice, huh, that I must serve in that c...

Re: What are you reading now?
I'm reading the expanded version of Stephen King's The Stand. I read the original many years ago, and loved it. In fact, it's long been a favorite of mine.
If anyone has ever wondered why editing is so important, read this version of the novel. Way too bloated.
