Game of Thrones (or, what am I going to do for 9 months?)
So the second season of Games of Thrones has ended and I'm feeling a bit of a loss. I hate to think of waiting 9 months to find out what happens to Jon Snow and the night watch and if terrible Joffrey will get his comeuppance. Have any of you read the books? I'm trying to decide if I should stay wit...

Re: Over the line?
I think it is adorable and not over the line. Keep it! (and I've got quite a few references to masturbation in my YA WIP with a male protag.)

Re: Do you compose in your mind?
Always composing! The pants method isn't doing it for me this time around. I'm taking a new approach. I'm writing scene by scene--working carefully on it, making sure it flows from and into next one. I feel like I can manage it all better if I focus on a few pages at a time, rather than have a big s...

Re: How long do you take to finish a draft/ WIP?
Too Long! I go through periods (like now) when I do well and write every day, but then I'll go through weeks of doing nothing and blaming it on being "busy" (no) or "stressed" or "stuck" (shah). Really I think it is because I'm afraid to suck, especially since I really ...

Oh man, Missouri! (my poor, depressed husband). I'm out. Actually, Out with a capital O. I'll have to wait for the next installment of Jacob Wonderbar to come out just like everyone else.

Re: Ending Novels
My thought is that if you are deep in the world and the characters of the novel, the ending should come organically from that. Stick with a resolution that feels true to the themes, character arc, etc. I tried outlining, but I think I write better when I just let it flow.

Addressing the query letter
Hi Nathan!
Can you tell me, if an agent asks that queries be directed (by email) to her assistant, should one address the assistant (dear Mr. Smith) or the agent in the official query? Does it matter?
Thank you!

Also, of course, we are East Dillon fans now. Landry going to Rice! Of course he is. I'm hoping his next band will have a better name than Crucifictorious. And than he'll get that awesome girl he should have. (Cause he's a real person, right?) And I'm assuming Julie is off to UT. I'm sorry to say th...

Is Kansas State's coach not the most thuggiest looking coach ever, or what? He looks like he should be in Goodfellas.

Re: Recommend any dystopian YA books?
I'd say The Forest of Hands and Teeth and The Dead Tossed Waves are both Dystopian and Zombie. They are set in the future when mankind is training to eke out some kind of normal existence among zombies. There are remnants of the past: the amusement park and there are indications of a controlling gov...
