I can't read multiple books at once. It's hard enough to read for my crit group, read for another friend, write my own, and read a book for fun!

Currently reading Anne Nesbit's CABINET OF EARTHS.

I was reading two or three books at a time for the first three months of the year. Then I started Clash of Kings in April.I've only focused on one book since... I think that book drained me a bit. Still loved it, though.

Right now I'm reading the Death Cure, by James Dashner. I'm having a great time reading it. Can wait to read more!

The Chaos walking trilogy by Pactrick Ness. Absolutely brilliant.

An ARC of book called 'The People of Forever are not Afraid.' It's about three girls in the Israeli army. So far it's fantastic.

I finished the "Chaos Walking" and started (and finished in the same night) an addictive scifi thriller called "POD." (The name of the author temporarily escapes me.) Very good.

I just read all three books in the YA series "the Trylle trilogy" (Switched, Torn and Ascend)-- They were decent and easy reads. Read them all in a day (I was laid up with a sprained ankle). Review is on my blog.

Just finished THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO. Pretty good read, but it took a while for me to get into it - like 100 pages into it! But it finally became worth it.
Now I'm going on to book two, THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS NEST.

Been looking for a YA book that was not about sparkly boyfriends or girls who needed saving. I had wanted to see if I could find one with a male MC, as that's the type I am writing, but it wasn't important, really.

I came across one that looked interesting, called Wild Talents, and so far, I'm only about 10% into it, but it's a good read. It's just a touch on the heavy handed snarky side, but I don't read THAT MUCH YA to know if this is common to the genre alone, or to this book.

Overall I like it, and I'll see how I feel when I'm done.

Mark, have you read the Mazerunner series? It's the first YA book I thought of when you mentioned male MC.

I was sent Between You and Me by Goodreads.com so I'm going to start it tomorrow.

I looked at the Mazerunner books, but they did not appeal to me. I finished reading Wild Talents in 3 days. It was weird. The beginning was solid, the middle held me with fast pace, and then the last few chapters let me down.

My point in this was that, at least from my perspective, if you have a "great evil" and a hero that must conquer it, you have to have the hero elevate, not the evil lower to the point of being no longer feared. That seems like a cop out.

I'm looking for my next book to read before I hit my next round of edits. I'll see what I can come up with.

So I was all ready to read Between You and Me but started reading the excerpt of Insignia (released yesterday) and I bought the book and finished it. If anyone is looking for a young male character, the MC is only 14 years old. The plot isn't like any of the YA books out now so I really had NO idea what was going to happen next. It was fascinating the way Kincaid put this very possible future together. My review is on my site *points to signature*

No, much less sci-fi. I actually didn't even think of the comparison until you mentioned it. No aliens, space travel. I tried to do the math and I think it's only about 100 years from now because a middle-aged character mentioned his father playing World of War Craft. This isn't really a spoiler but I'll put it under a tag anyway:

Pretty much the private corporations have become so powerful they claimed themself their own "nation" (not too far-fetched if you ask me) and when all resources are used up on Earth, they want to go to space...no one can figure out the rights of who "owns" space and the business begin fighting and countries take sides. They don't want to ruin the resources on Earth so they take the fight to space. They install these super smart kids with a neural processor in so they can think as fast as a computer and they control the ships and drones from the Pentagon (Kids because their brains can handle the operations, adults cannot). The main character is this Gamer-whiz who goes from casino to casino with his drunk, gambling-addicted father.

OK. I've recently finished reading my first Dean Koontz novel - BROTHER ODD. I am his newest fan. Wow, the man can write!

I've been hearing great things about him for a while now... from several different sources. I'll probably pick something he wrote soon.

Right now I'm reading The Night Circus. All the adds I saw made it sound like just another romantic story with a fantasy setting - which is not my kind of book at all. I started reading because I had already bought it on kindle and was looking for something else to read before I tackled A Storm of Swords. The book took me by surprise. The use of voice and point-of-view alone were enough to grab me. I am about 120 pages in. Has anyone else read this book?

So I am reading Insignia now, in part from Amanda's recommendation, as well as an inside look from Amazon. I'm actually amazed at the similarity between this book and Enders' game, and while overall (hard to say, I'm still at the beginning) I like it, there are parts that definitely pull me out and make me think "Ah, the author is trying too hard here."

I'm going to finish this book, probably by the week's end. Then I'll see how I rank it.
