McMillan pulled from Amazon

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/30/techn ... ref=bookse A recent article on NY times said that Amazon had pulled all books from McMillan, except that those offered from 3rd party vendors. This is apparently in response to a debate over eBook prices.

I don't know how this will affect Amazon or McMillan, or ebooks altogether, but it is definitely a loss for authors whose books might not be bought when a shopper can't find them. One can only assume that this is temporary.

Yeah, publishing wars. Amazon has decided to give in to Macmillan's demands, but posted a very inflammatory statement about Macmillan for customers to read, going so far as to suggest that customers might prefer to purchase the many eBooks offered by small presses and self-published authors available for Kindle at much more reasonable prices: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2010/01/31/ ... sher-fight. I'm wondering if small presses could strike a deal with Amazon to provide cheaper advertising for their books and/or placement of their titles on Amazon's home page. In the past, Amazon always gave short shrift to small publishing houses by NEVER, EVER listing them on their home page, unlike Fictionwise which continues to showcase titles from both large and small publishing houses on their home page. Interesting development. I'm wondering if this will eventually lead to a much more level playing field for both large and small publishing houses, changing the publishing landscape in the same way that the Internet changed the landscape for newspapers, allowing a site like The Huffington Post to become a mainstream news source.
