Nathan Bransford - The Forums

I did a guest post today on Amy Sue Nathan's Women's Fiction Writer's blog about why a novel that is a love story isn't always a romance novel. I know the issue of women's fiction vs romance has been discussed here on the forums many times (as I've been the one to raise it a few times) so I'm posting the link in case anyone wants to read it. The discussions it has generated in the comment section are very interesting and I think might be helpful to anyone writing cross-genre stories or trying to decide in which genre their story fits.

Great point. Love -and not just romantic love- is a potent element in many genres. I really like cross-genre novels in that they have so many elements and don't get stuck in a (too often) repeating pattern.

It brings to mind a quote from 500 Days of Summer: "This is not a love story. This is a story about love." Not sure if that fits though

I believe that it's more interesting to work on the verge of 2 fields. It's more intersting and engaging. You're like a path-breaker.
