Publishers Weekly is reporting that Pearson, the largest book publisher in the world and the corporate owner of Penguin, has bought vanity publisher Author Solutions for $116 million (US).

Author Solutions has acquired a rather negative reputation in a number of quarters, and I'm curious to see if Pearson makes any attempt to clean up their act.

Yes, the web is abuzz. I feel suspect of their motives, myself. Maybe I'm being unfair, but something about this hits me wrong.
