I am going to write this, one way or another.

The story centers on some kind of special ops group that i intend to call Aegis. They will be a unit made to deal with extra special dangerous biological type threats to national security. That means: monsters, creatures of legend and so on. Lucas St. paul is the leader. He had a brush with a creature way back when he was active and ended up retiring because of it. Now he is dragged back in and chosen to be the leader of Aegis, this special unit. There will be others in the unit: a soldier taking a specially crafted super soldier serum. The only drawback is that to deal with the serum and to combat potential side effects he needs to use heroin. There will be a pilot who was once a stunt flyer, think a cowboy like Murdock from A-team. I havent decided the others yet. the unit will be based in the converted ruins of an old mental health high security facility that once housed the most dangerous of all criminals and psychopaths and such,

First case centers on a new type of zombie, one that thinks normally and moves normally but has developed an ultra thick skin, like stone. The virus stems from the blood of the legendary Medusa, which our bad guy has in his possession, he intends to spread this serum and create a world of these stone zombies.

One idea i had for a recurring mysterious character is to have a guy show up from time to time, a hunter if you will. He is always looking for these creatures. The guy is going to be the greek figure Orion, the Hunter. He will show up from time to time, maytbe to help, maybe to not help. His motivations will remain a mystery.

Don't you love getting a shiny new idea, especially when it is startlingly clear in your head, filled with details?

I do like it, but I wanted to tell you the first thing it made me think of was the show Sanctuary on the sci-fi channel, which has a similar premise. But I think you can make it work!

And in terms of something similar, I've seen that work okay, It happens alot because there are only so many ideas. Same with music, there are only so many chords. Go for it! It's all in the execution and how you do it.
