Agent wants to make edits? Yes or no?

Nathan,

I have a manuscript out with an agent right now and she emailed me to ask if she can make edits. Are there any hard and fast rules regarding this one way or another?

She wants to make the edits herself or would like to suggest edits for you to make?

She asked if she could edit down some sentences that she thought were too long.

I would always be open to suggestions, just make sure that you have final say. It's your name on the front of the book, after all.

Thanks.

I suppose I should have been clearer (apologies). She's not representing me as of yet. She had requested a manuscript and asked me about making edits while she is still in the process of reading it. That could be a good sign, that she's showing an active interest in the project?

It's definitely a good sign, though not a done deal. Make sure to check out this post on working with an agent on revisions prior to representation: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2008/08 ... sions.html
