Post by ShadowFlame » February 4th, 2011, 4:27 pm

im 11 and have roughly 14,000 words into my childrens novel(around the age group of 12+) i have been writing it for over a year(it's a triolgy and i have book 1 figured fully out book 2 and 3 have their major plotline figured out i know roughly where i should end up on the last page of the triolgy) and i have three questions:
1) do you have any advice for a young author?
2)hiw can i mention my age in a query letter
3)how do i know what genre my book is classed in as in my local book shop and library it's classed in age not genre.

Hey kid,

I'm not Nathan, but I just want to say good luck to you.

I tried writing a book at your age and got as far as three pages. It was a bad Sherlock Holmes ripoff.

I'm sure your book will be much better.
Read one of the best stories by Borges.

Wow, awesome! Keep it up!

Here's a post that might help on the first two questions: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2007/08 ... iters.html

If the book is aimed at kids aged around 12+ its either middle grade (more for twelve year olds) or young adult (more for kids older than twelve).
