Domain names and hosting

Hi Nathan,

My apologies if this isn't the appropriate place to ask this question, I wasn't sure where it should be raised.

In one of your posts (way back) you talked about securing a domain name. My question is, to register a domain name and access hosting services from an American company do you have to reside in America? I saw a company that received a 3/3 CNET rating, and they look like a good service to access, but I'm just wondering if I can utilize their services (eg phone support if the site went down etc) if not residing in the US?

My apologies if this is a silly question or not an appropriate one to raise with you. I tried to ascertain the information from the website but failed dismally! I currently reside in a country where these sorts of services are not offered on a reliable basis, where customer service is still a developing notion and where technical know how and expertise are still very slowly being grown in. I'd rather access a solid company in another country which can offer the nature, level and type of service I need.

Thanks very much

Leila

I have used Godaddy in the past to purchase domains, and no, I don't believe there are any requirements about where you live when securing a domain. But I'm by no means an expert in this arena.

Thanks very much for your response Nathan.

The domain name seems an easier issue to resolve than the hosting one. I'll continue to investigate.
