Do You Narrate Your Life?

Sometimes I catch myself acting as a third-person narrator for my own real-life actions, usually mundane things like taking out the trash.

She sighed and wheeled the bin to the curb. Its metal handle melded to her bare fingers in the icy
night. “Should have known better than to leave it for someone else,” she muttered, tugging her jacket tighter.

And it goes on from there. I’m sadly amused by this and often don’t even realize I’m doing it until I’ve already written a few sentences in my head! Guess it’s just proof that sometimes you never stop writing. :)

Anybody else find themselves doing this?

I do that and it used to bother me but now I do it because it's kinda fun. I'll see something or something will happen and I'll write it in my head. I actually find it has a positive effect on my work (not so much for my social since I tend to lose track of what's going on around me).

I don't do it with my life, no, but sometimes when I people watch, I narrate their actions in my head. I also spend countless hours imagining myself in possible futures, and narrating those hypothetical scenes.

Down the well does not narrate her own life, however, she does "write" character descriptions (sometimes unflattering) of the masses of people as they get in her way while she shops for the perfect Christmas presents -- uh, she wrote on impulse.

All the time, yes.

Luckily, most of it then wanders off into the blog. Even before social media, blogging, etc, I would write letters throughout a day, describing exactly what was happening.

So evidently I am to blame for the "what I had for dinner today" facebook update thing.

Since I tend to narrate in the first person, I probably wouldn't even know if I was narrating myself. *shifty eyes*

Like Claudie, I do narrate others, but the narration generally begins when I start imagining a deviation from what they're actually doing. Not deviant behavior mind you, or not necessarily deviant behavior.

I don't, sorry. Though, I did once know a girl who was about 12 who did that constantly. Out loud. I doubt she was very popular in school. . .

I narrate internal discussions at the level of conscience, a demon on one shoulder and a seraphin on the other, monkey see all evil, hear all evil, speak little evil, do some evil once in awhile in the middle.

I also narrate scenes I experience in the flesh trying them out for rendering into words. Portraying emotional context and expressing commentary are my favorite observer narration pastimes.

Yep. That's why I write. It keeps the voices quiet ;)
