For most of her life, Janet Freeman has suffered at the hands of people who were supposed to protect her. Now, as a sexual assault nurse examiner, she does her part to make her city and the world, for that matter, a safer place. But when a rapist commits a series of brutal assaults, Janet uses her position to exact her own form of justice.
_______
Janet Freeman is a 34 year old ER nurse who has a history of sexual abuse as a child, at the hands of her father. She is now in a relationship with a man whom she thought she loved, but has become abusive. Having been raised to believe she deserves it, the ever passive Janet tolerates the abuse.
Janet is trying to cope with the aftermath of her childhood by seeing Dr. Elizabeth Reynolds, a forensic psychiatrist and former FBI profiler, now in private practice. Through analysis of a recurring dream, Janet is slowly learning about herself. She doesn’t have to be the world’s doormat.
Her abusive fiancée Michael, is a service coordinator at a luxury car dealership where the District Attorney is investigating a security breach after confidential financial information is stolen by a hacker, presumably for identity theft.
Meanwhile, series of rapes begins. The victims all have something in common. They are either wives of very influential men or successful women in their own right.
Liz (Dr. Reynolds) begins seeing a new man who has appeared in her life.
As Janet performs forensic examinations on the victims she finds no physical evidence what-so-ever. This is alarming because four years earlier, a series of similar rapes resulted in the death of one victim. The case remains unsolved.
Police enlist the services of Dr. Reynolds (Liz) to develop a profile on the unidentified rapist.
As the abuse from Micheal escalates, Janet begins to see signs that may point to him as the rapist, even if it is only in her mind. Since there has been no evidence found on the rape victims, Janet decides to help the investigation along by planting Michaels semen into evidence kits of future victims.
Investigators discover that the names of the rape victims are also on the list of financial files stolen from the dealership. The cases are connected. Now, with a dealership full of potential suspects, police obtain DNA samples from all male employees of the dealership.
While police are waiting for DNA results, Liz completes the criminal profile.
Janet, now fearing she will be caught planting evidence, must direct investigators toward another man who she feels fits the profile, a doctor she works with.
Police interview the doctor who confesses to the rapes from four years ago but denies involvement in the current crimes.
With the doctor now in custody, police learn that the DNA from the victims matches an employee of the dealership, Michael.
Michael is arrested. During the interrogation Michael tries to escape. Making it to an interior hallway, he knocks a uniformed officer to the ground and takes his gun. Michael is shot and killed by officers.
Liz sees the story on the news and is devastated. We learn that the new love was Michael.
Liz knows for a fact the Michael was not the rapist. She now knows Janet was setting him up.
CLIMAX……
Resolution ….
And, THE END
