Should you update agents when you submit to a publisher?

Hello Nathan,

My wife finished her first novel in May and we have been actively e-mailing queries in an effort to attract an agent. As expected, we mostly have received form rejections but also some positive comments and the occasional request for partials and fulls. Recently, we asked a reputable publisher whether he would consider an unsolicited manuscript, knowing he was looking for manuscripts of this type. We received a request for the full manuscript, which he is currently reading.

The questions -

1. Should we edit the query to include this new information or should we wait until we hear back from the publisher?

2. Should we nudge agents that we have not heard back from with this new information?

Thank you for your help,

Ryan

1. Yes, when you submit to a publisher, include it in new queries.
2. No need to update the agents who are considering unless there is an offer from the publisher.
