Huzzah! This comes at just the right time for me!

My goal will be 7,000 words. (Considering I've averaged less than 10k per month over the past several months, I don't want to kill myself.) But, if I happen to get to 10k, I won't mind too much...

Good luck, all!

I didn't forget!

In fact, I just typed the words "THE END" in my WIP -- so I'm done my draft and ready for the editing process which I hope to accomplish this weekend!

She's not gonna make it captain!

Thats what the voice in my head keeps saying.
So I put myself down for 10K this weekend. Right now I stand at 5K. I didnt get a chance to write at all Saturday, and only briefly on Friday with most of my work getting down yesterday.
So I have til the end of today to get down another 5K. It's not looking good.

But I haven't given up yet!

I switched up my goal for Labor Day. My original goal was to finish the draft of a particular manuscript -- and I wound up doing that about a week ago. It turned out I was closer to the end than I thought, and I didn't need the 15,000 words I predicted I would. That was a nice feeling! I'm still not a big fan of the manuscript as a whole, though. I called it a "practice novel," conceived solely to help me learn more about scene structure, and I think it'll stay right where it is on my hard drive.

Anyway, my shiny NEW goal was to work on my outline for the revision of another project, and incorporate what lessons I've learned about plot and structure over the past few months. My Labor Day goal was just to get a good start on it (which I've done); my longer-term goal is to finish the outline about two weeks from now, while I'm on my annual retreat with my critique group.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Ignore previous post of doom.

As of one minute ago, my word count stands at: (drumroll)

10,019! I made it! I wrote more than 6,000 words today. Of course, in the middle portions the prose is a bit sparse, but overall I am happy with what I was able to accomplish in a weekend.

So, how did everyone else do?

Yay for you!

I will not finish my goal -- which was to edit the whole thing and find beta readers. I've done considerable editing -- I'm currently on page 351 of 438 -- but will not have the energy to finish. I don't have beta readers lined up, either, but I know exactly who I'm going to approach.

So... overall... not what I wanted, but still managed to accomplish a ton.

Emily, good for you. That's got to be some kind of world record, 6k words in one day.

Craig, you, too. I can't believe you edited almost your whole ms in one weekend.

Well, I did not reach my goal of rewriting the last few chapters of my MS, but I did end up breaking up my rewriting with some editing and got rid of about 11,000 words (Yay!) and rewrote about 6,000 (Yay squared!) So it was a good weekend all around.

I have to say I am completely intimidated by you folks. I've never been able to write that fast in my life. I think the most I've ever written in a day is 1,500 words, and that isn't typical for me at all. So, wow. Just wow. Good job.

Well, I didn't get much time to write at ALL. Hubby came home with a ton of work to do, so I basically had the kids all weekend. Boo! But, I did manage to write and scrap and rewrite the first third of my chapter book a couple of times, and re-do the outline for it. So, all things considered, I did okay.

I'm hoping that once he finishes this big push they're doing at his office, I can get a weekend to myself to write.
