This is a question for any Americans living in Canada. Do you have GST or HST numbers, and if you do, how does this affect your tax filings in the US? Does having the GST/HST number mean that you have to register/file as a business or as self-employed? I've heard that there are tax implications if you file as self-employed in the form of extra taxes, so I'd like to avoid that as long as legally possible. And do you also have to collect sales tax on your book sales in the US, since you're American?

And for Americans living in America: do you have to collect sales tax on your book sales? How does this whole thing work?
