Hello everyone,
I am working diligently to enhance the descriptive quality of my fiction writing. A significant hurdle I've encountered is moving beyond visual and auditory descriptions to the realm of scent. While I have extensive resources archived for things like colors and expressions, I find myself struggling when it comes to articulating specific smells.
Identifying cooking aromas is straightforward enough, but how does one effectively convey unique odors like that of freshly cut grass, dry hay, or the distinct fragrance of different flowers?
For example, I can easily write "a smile tinged with sadness" or "periwinkle blue eyes glistening with tears." However, I am at a loss for words when trying to describe how a character might "kneel and inhale the scent of lichen, savoring its [word needed] aroma."
Does anyone have advice or suggestions for expanding this aspect of my prose?
