Between your links and Nathan's, I am so much better informed than I could ever be on my own. :)
So, this is what I think. Amazon is courting writers and Jobs is courting publishers.
I suspect they are both heading toward the same place - which is to take over. We may all be working for one or the other of them eventually - or possibly for Google or a dark horse contender.
There are a couple of wild cards here - well, I see two, although maybe there are more. The first wildcard is our political system and where it will fall in terms of loyalty to the current publishing regime. The second is the writer, and whether the writer will take what's offered or branch off into cooperatives and/or independents - or both - or all three.
