I’ve been looking at some of the amazing videos of the recent volcano eruption in Iceland. Here’s a video where people went up very close to it. There’s even video of the lava flow:

Been watching some videos, too, pretty cool. Here's another good one - how to actually pronounce the @#$%! thing.

Eyjafjallajökull

This the most convoluted volcanic name in modern eruption history. I still have trouble saying it after hearing it said properly.

I have been advised that the Eye of Sauron is visible within that volcanic storm. Don't tell anyone who just started Lord of the Rings, or who would hire a boat to take them to Iceland because they're so obsessed with one (or more) of the characters.

HillaryJ -

Brilliant analogy - the Eye of Sauron. :)

Sauron? I thought the One Ring was destroyed. Totally gonna have to reread that book.

Ink,

Hmmmm ... You bring up an interesting point. OK, how about this? ... The volcano is actually a wormhole that brings one back in time to the point at which the one ring still gave power to Sauron. Of course, there’s at least one flaw in my argument, including the fact that THE LORD OF THE RINGS isn’t real. :)

Eruptions of that magnitude have a way of sending reality skittering off-line (just ask all those people trying to hitch-hike across the Atlantic or flying the other way around the world to get home). And...I'm pretty sure that LOTR was based on a true story, written in haiku, on the back on a rock found wrapped in the Shroud of Turin.
