I found it very exciting to hear announcements on the news today that NASA programs are being expanded by $6 billion. Future projects being funded: robots in space, a new telescope to be created after the Hubble, further exploration of deep space, goals to land a human on an asteroid and on Mars, commercial businesses being allowed to work with NASA, and so much more! I find this all very exciting. I also wonder if expansion into space will create increased interest in science fiction books.

I guess that's all good and well, but I can't get over the millions that were wasted by crashing a ship into the moon last year.

I would love to read a comedy about this...

Robin,

That was done to find out how much water exists on the moon which is necessary if we ever want to build a moon base. Space exploration has led to the discovery of lots of things we now use every day on earth: http://www.stars4space.org/Benefits.html
