ebooks and iPad!

Ok so i managed to play with an iPad for a few minutes today and whilst i see now a use for it, i still don't particularly want or need one. Could change if a book came out only for IPad that i wanted.
What i've been thinking about for a while now is how with the iPad it would be possible to put together the book or the written word with an audiobook or an animation/movie clips.
Unfortunately unless an author says that in the iPad version they want animation or audio, this is probably unlikely to happen. I've been thinking of writing an app that does this but because as i understand unless i have the copyright to each element i can't publish this but can only use it for my enjoyment unless i put it under the unlocked, unofficial iPads.
I think this could be really useful in order to get kids reading. So was wondering if there is anyway i could make this merging of platforms legal.
