I got a kindle. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but now that I have it I do. Still not giving up my physical books though.
Dad's an avid reader with macular degeneration so we got him one.
I've decided I want a Kindle and will buy one this year for myself. I love real physical books and all, but I buy and go through so many books that I'm running out of space big time and my office has become so overwhelmed by books that I can no longer use my office. I've never been against ereaders though. I think they're cool. I swing both ways.

EDITED. I can't believe I just spelled "overwhelmed" wrong. I'm such a dork sometimes.

I'm not ready to even consider getting a Star Trek datapad. I didn't get a cell phone until I just had to have one; and it's still just that - a cell phone.

Fallout, baby! I thought I'd be playing New Vegas by now, but I still haven't finished the add-ons for Anchorage, Lookout Point or Mothership Zeta. I'm disappointed I can't take Fawkes with me (he's so freaking zen - he's my fallout BFF), so I'm fussing around checking out all the locations on my map (Explorer perk) and hoarding all the pre-war food (NUKA COLA YEAH) in my modded hideout (suuuuuuuupercool, the only mod I recommend) with its underground waterfall, water purifier, lab, guest rooms, equipment sorter, double bed, aquarium, trophy room, armory, and fresh garden. Oh, and a bathroom! No more shared bathroom in Megaton! (Although it's handy for drinking out of the toilet - um...it will make sense after you talk to Moira.)

Oh, and the Maass book is pretty cool. Let me know when you're done and I'll send you the Maassketeer ears. :)

YES PLEASE. I will be first in line for a data jack in the back of my head. Also for implantable computers in my eyeballs. I'm a gadget-girl. I get starry-eyed at even the mention of sci-fi level tech coming to fruition. I am hoping for tattoos that move in time with my heartbeat - like in the book series Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Sign me up, secret government scientists. You can try out your cyberware on me any time.

Oh! I also can't wait for the little eyeball computers that let you pull up the social networking icons when you look at a person. I want to private message someone with my mind.

I wasn't against them necessarily either, I was just more reluctant to give up my books. I have the same problem with book space. I need a new book shelf something terrible. I have 5 boxes of books just waiting to be put on a shelf. My poor friends grumble and groan every time I move because of all the boxes (I seriously owe them for the last time).
What actually got me considering an e-reader was traveling on the road for work. My co-worker suggested it because every time he saw me I was reading a different book. And since we were on the road for six weeks, I had to pack a separate suitcase for all the books I brought. Now when I go back on the road, my suitcase will be much lighter (not really, I'll just fill it with more clothes).

Wouldn't that be kinda like the Galactic Milieu series by Julian May? Of course that was more telekinesis than mini computers, but same basic concept. Kinda.

My brother (the engineer) wants to invent teleportation, then not tell anyone about it. He wants to keep it all to himself, he's selfish that way. I asked him how he would explain teleporting to visit friends on the side of the state and just appearing out of nowhere. His answer: hitchhiking. Whatever.

Sommer,
I red your blog yesterday. I'm intrigued by, Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld, but I was wondering if it's better to read the series in order? If it is which one's first?

Oh btw if I want to comment on the blog, is the email address thing required everytime, and who gets to see it?

Behemoth is the second in the series. The first book is called Leviathan and yeah you have to read them in order. Leviathan begins with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and follows a fantastical version of World War I.

As for the email address thing, I have no idea why it asks for that since no one can see it, not even me. The only thing anyone can see is if you put in a web address, then it links your name to whatever address you put in. I suspect the email address is to prevent bots from leaving spam comments. I get very, very few spam comments. I will look into seeing if there is any way to turn it off, but I use a prebuilt template since my coding skills are pretty basic. I don't know that changing the comment section is within my skill base. But I'll check into it!

No need for that. I'm not quite paranoid, I just wanted to make sure the address was going to be dropped in a hole with who knows how many others. I guess was thrown off because I was afraid it was going to ask me to join - not that I wouldn't, but since '95 6(?) I've had to get so many UN's and PW's I can't keep them straight any more.

I joined NB because it's work related.

Oh no, no joining. I know a lot of Blogger journals require you to join Google in order to comment, which I hate since I don't use Blogger. So you won't have to worry about that.

I looked at the admin stuff for the comment section and it looks like the email address must fall into a hole.

Cool, I'll have to look at the other blogs I lurk to see how many are the same, and how many will work with same login as Nathan's blog.

It only seems polite to comment occasionally - it's less like spying that way.

Sommer, I just looked at your new blog post, and you have some pretty interesting books on there. I am going to have to check a few of them out!
