A friend lent me The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, saying I had to read it, it was the best book she'd read all year, etc. This coming from a person who only reads 3 - 4 books a year. I have it on my nightstand, but have only read the first chapter. I tend to subconsciously rebel against books that people insist I read.
The other day I started and finished Saint Iggy, by K.L. Going, which I thought was excellent. I'm now reading Once Was Lost, by Sara Zarr.

Finished Per Petterson's "Out Stealing Horses" last night.
Best new-ish book I've read in a while.

I just came upon The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. (I found it in a bookstore, had heard nothing about it, but now see it is already a movie too.)
I am reading that and, yesterday, I bought South of Broad for a new book club I am about to join. (I might not have purchased this book due to some of the copy on the jacket–too sad–but a book club can open new horizons.)

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. I just finished Fallen by Lauren Kate, and really enjoyed that one, as well!

I'm reading The Replacement, by Brenna Yovanoff. It's not out until next month, but my friend grabbed an ARC for me at ComicCon. :)

Funny, I do the same thing. :D

Two of my favourites.
I've just finished
The Hunger Games and
Catching Fire. And these were just as good as everyone said. Bring on
Mockingjay!

Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye. The pace is slow, but the delightfully clever phrasing and descriptions make it so absolutely worth it. I keep elbowing my husband awake (This is when I'm reading in bed. He's not narcoleptic or anything.) and reading bits of dialog to him.

My favorite YA novel! (And one of my favorite novels, period.) It's one I've given to lit fic fans to introduce them to today's YA. I love it to the point that:
1.) I refer to lettuce, arugula, and such as "filed greens"
2.) I tried to walk to the Getty Musuem when I was in L.A. with my husband last fall.
I read on Gawker yesterday that a movie of the novel is in the works, with Marcia Gay Harden cast as James Sveck's mom.

I'm halfway through LET THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ERASE YOUR NAME by Vendela Vida (because her new one is nowhere to be found and more expensive anyway). I have to say, I want to love this book because of all the blurbs and the fact that she's David Eggers' wife (but also not just because she's his wife) and because I loved their movie AWAY WE GO. Still, it's a bit detached, consciously written, and so hilarious at times it might be TOO clever. It's praised for having not a single wasted word and for being paced like a thriller with a fantastic plot. I just think it would be better if it breathed more. Vida is obviously a fantastic writer, and I want, frankly, more sentences.

Theft by Peter Carey.
I didn't know what to make of it at first, but I'm enjoying it a lot more as it progresses. I've been reading it slowly over the last two weeks, but in another hour I will have finished the second half in a single sitting--aside from this short break while my tea steeps.
