There has been a lot of discussion on the pros and cons of KDP Select. Most writers have either made their mind up already or have decided to wait and see how others get on. This post is not about that. It's about how subscription models (like KDP Select) are going to play a big part in the future, and how we need to start figuring out how we value (and sell) our work under these models. I argue that the terms of KDP Select aren't as good as they could be, and that the best way to improve those terms is to withhold participation until they improve.

Whatever your views on KDP Select (and there are valid points on both sides), I would love to hear your thoughts on subscription models in general, and how we can fight for good terms in the future (and we will need to).

The Jerusalem District Court this week ruled that author Naomi Ragen plagiarized the work of writer Sarah Shapiro. The court found that Ragen, in her 1992 novel Sotah, uplifted sections from Shapiro’s Growing With My Children: A Jewish Mother’s Diary, published in 1990.
What does this have to do with Edgar Allan Poe?

Large publishers have been speaking with unusual candor, admitting to slowing the growth of e-books to protect print sales. The latest AAP figures (again) show that new digital revenue is not replacing lost print sales.
The worrying thing for large publishers is that they are not just losing control of distribution, they are losing control of which books are being
recommended. There is a whole new recommendation ecostructure from book blogs, Kindle reader sites, and social media that doesn't care who has published the book.

You never know how you'll use a piece of writing, a picture, or some video. One liners written on napkins can become powerful conclusion sentences. That random photo might just end up on a book cover.
I put together a quick post showing how my book cover came together. I love "It all came together..." stories so please share yours here or here...
