Thanks for the recommendations, y'all. We have a TV-free household but we are always on the lookout for any good series on DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed 6 Feet Under, but was mad about Deadwood. The David Milch authored episodes stood out from the others because of the almost Shakespearean cadence of the dialogue.

Being Human has some very beautifully written thoughts about love, loss, and life. Originally I tried watching it for the monster effects, but was caught up by how relatable the characters were (crazy when they are ghosts, werewolves, and vampires... I know) and how honestly they portray the light and darkness that is humanity.

I have to agree about the Big Bang Theory. It is sheer genius. Growing up with a father who knows everything (seriously, just when I think I've figured out the limits of his knowledge base I stumble across him reading Japanese) and a sister who reads Hawking and Einstein for fun, It's crazy, but I've actually heard them having some of the same arguments. Bazinga.
