Yes WriteOnCon is totally free. And anything you miss you can read/watch later. It's a great conference!

Hi, hmm....I think I won't post anything after all since it appears that the 250 words or the query has to be based on a completed MS, and I'm nowhere near that.

I think I'll skip over live events due to time and the fact that they seem targeted toward queries/publishing territory and I'm not close to that. I assume the other day presentations will be posted later in write-ups on the site so we can go back and read during the following weeks?

Thanks.

Thanks for that link, Sommer! That does help clarify things. I guess I'll go ahead and post my stuff. Do you know if there's a limit on how many MSs you can put up? Or is it as many as you want as long as they're complete and you pay it forward five for each one? (I've got two, incidentally.) I haven't searched through the FAQs completely yet; going to do so now.

It is my understanding that you can have as many as you want, but you have to complete 5 critiques for each one you post.

Breathe, there has been some discussion on this exact point. From what I understood, it is recommended that you post a query if your story is ready, but you could post your 250/5pgs for feedback even if it's a work in progress. That was the route I chose to take and I posted that it was a WIP just in case there was any question.

And yes, there will be recaps, archived vlogs, etc for people who are unable to participate during the day!

I posted queries for my two completed works: Snows of Sorrow and Where Secrets Are Hidden. (Links go to their WOC query threads.)

I'm amazed at how much activity there is on those boards! And everyone's been quite helpful and encouraging. I've gotten some good feedback already.

I was thinking I'd like to post my opening pages, but I've felt a little put off by the idea of having to critique five in return - mostly just the time; it took a while just to leave thoughtful critiques for the queries. ;) But perhaps a bit later...

Some of the ninja agents have already been spotted browsing the forums and leaving comments, a day early.

Agreed on the agents, Sanderling. There have already been a few agents in the MG threads who've left comments like "Check your private messages!"

It's getting exciting over there!

I've seen them as well in the YA threads.

Welcome to Day 1 of WriteOnCon! There's already some great content up for you to enjoy.

I really liked this video by Meredith Barnes, digital marketing/publicity maven at SoHo Press (who specializes in YA). She's got some of the best advice I've ever heard (and given) about social media. Her sentiment - don't do all the things.

The cool thing about these talks is they're short, usually 4-6 minutes, so it's feasible to listen/watch during the work day.

I enjoyed Meredith's presentation as well, especially the idea of blogging twice a week about something OTHER than writing. I usually feel overwhelmed with pressure to put up some deep insight into writing when really, I'm still back in the new kid stages. So blogging about things that interest me sounds so logical, and yet so obvious. It's been twirling in my mind since this morning.
