Hee, thanks guys! I came to put a few more widgets and they -just- put down the site for maintenance. Here's hoping it'll fix the remainder of traffic. It was running fairly smoothly for me earlier, though.

Election night is definitely a good excuse not to write so much. It's better than spending 3 hours tracing tables in preparation for a stupid protein lab, anyway. *grumbles*

For those who are waiting on their widgets, well, hang on! If the site comes back up before I'm done with a few last things (15 minutes), I'll add you. :)

HA! I finally got to log in last night, apparently less than an hour before they took the site down.

I clocked a few more words this morning and gah if it wasn't for work I'd be writing right now!

OT but: Does anyone know of any good instrumental music that isn't classical, that's in the vein of dance\electronica that isn't too thrummy, maybe a little slow and dark? I'm not sure what I'm looking for but I'm scraping my music folder for dregs and I can't listen to anything with words while I write without the urge to sing. XD

I know just the thing for you!

www.magnatunes.com

It is an awesome music site where artists can load their music for purchase/download without going through record companies/iTunes and the artist makes most of the money instead of splitting it around. It is kind of like self publsihing for musicians! Anyway, the grand majority of the music does not have words, it is instramental and a lot of it has a soundtrack feel to it. I have a membership to the site because it is the only music I can handle playing when I write since it is wordless but emotional. I like the ambiant/world music when I'm writing. It is free to listen to off the site, but if you want to download anything you have to pay $15 a month, although if you sign up you get a free 7 day trial to test the waters. Being a member also grants you some use rights for making movie soundtracks, book trailers, youtube videos, background music for vlogs, and embedding playlists on websites/blogs. It's pretty great.

There are a ton of artists to choose from, but each album has a little snippet of what sort of music you can expect on each album and that helps me narrow down what I want to hear. I discovered Magnatunes because of an XBox arcade game called Braid that has one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard, and it turns out that it is by a group of artists that sell their music on Magnatunes - Sieber, Kammen, Fulton and Schatz. Some of the albums have descriptions like: electronic music becomes poetry, healing magic of the japanese zenflute, haunting, ethereal pop ambient, beautiful ambient space music, underwater electronic soundscapes, atmospheric, evocative, film-y instrumentals, etc etc.

Thanks, Sommer! I was trying to think of net radio kinda places but I couldn't remember any! XD I know there's another that allows you to put in a few songs and it knows instinctively what to play, but I can't remember what it is. Radio Rivendell I think? I'll have to play around tonight. XD

Finally added a few requested widgets! The "newcomers" are Sommer, Aimée, Robin, sarahdee and S.M.Worth!

Now on the list of NB forum folks participating, but for whom I'm missing a NaNo ID are Cookie and Jen P. A word from you, and your wordcount will join the striking blue display on first page. ;)

Now back to studying!

For some reason though I updated on the website it didn't update here. Oh well. I think I had that problem last year, too. XD

For some reason I'm not seeing the widgets. I just see the word "Image." It's probably my computer doing this. Anybody know what the problem is?

It's not your computer or the forums, it's the NaNoWriMo site. It's not handling the traffic well this year. Usually it clears up before now. Give it until after this weekend and things should start working better.

Well look at that! All of the sudden I can see them now. That was anticlimactic. I like seeing the progress (even though it's only day four). Now I have more motivation I guess; I feel like I'm racing you guys. (mwahahahaha) But Claudie, your goals is almost impossible. I would never be able to do that. You must have a lot of free time.

Thanks for doing this, Claudie! Talk about accountability now. :)

Last year I could find 5 hours of free time on most days (free includes one or two classes), more on weekends and Wednesday. I would do my thinking on the mandatory 40 minutes of walking I have every day to get to school. This year, however, isn't so easy. I have two more classes, and work is asking for more hours out of me.

And Robin: the pages would take so long to load yesterday, I got about a hundred words out for every new widget. ;) This is my 'site is slow' technique. I just write as much as I can between loading pages.
