Re: Words I Can't Stop Using
Wow, that Wordle thing was fun! And it was quite pretty... until I unchecked "remove common words"! Now there's a huge "THE" splashed across the page, followed closely by "I". But I'm not gonna worry about those two too much...
When I uncheck that, my most common word by far is the name of my protagonist's crush... (she's a teenage girl so that seems appropriate). Other than that, while I'm writing I tend to notice a lot of smiles and laughs going on. I'm constantly trying to "show" a smile or a laugh without saying those words, but it's so hard!

Ick... too many over used words
Aside from character names, the biggest words are "just", "one", "back", and "time".
Anyone willing to post an image of their wordle picture?
Thanks for wordle.

What are the eyes doing?charlotte49ers wrote:eyes
The dreaded eyes!!!!
I read a major pet peeve of an editor was eyes "doing" things. "His eyes flew to her face/Her eyes fell on him"...disgusting. The editor noted that it was the gaze that is active. Eyes rarely fall, nor do they fly, except in explicit horror.

I have not used Wordle because all my chapters are either in long-hand or in their own word document at this point, but I know that I use the word though way too much.
I Don’t use sublIminal mEssages

I have the same habit, and now I notice it in everything I read. I never thought my sweet scenes of lovers seeing each other for the same time, or partners trying to give each other nonverbal cues could appall. I feel like, in some ways, I've lost my innocence.charlotte49ers wrote:I'm sorry that my mistake is disgusting.

You can paste your whole manuscript into Wordle and it'll create a word cloud based on it.
It can also provide you with word frequency details etc.
Here's one I just created.

Playing devil's advocate here: how do you know Wordle doesn't keep what you pasted, and uses it for nefarious purposes?
(I've only had a slight look at Wordle, maybe there's a legal text that states what it will do with your text and dissipates these doubts)

Re: Words I Can't Stop Using
While I'm editing my piece (which is always a work in progress), I find myself seeing how many unnecessary words I can cut out. Like many writers I find myself overusing simple words like "that", "which", and "therefore".
For example, in the sentence I just wrote, the "which is always a work in progress" can be shortened to "always a work in progress" minus the "which is." Being concise always helps convey clarity.

I thought i used the word 'realised' too much - but surprisingly couldn't find it on wordle.
