I buy some books new. I also buy copies of/make donations to fiction magazines. Mostly though, I buy books second hand (and read the free-to-view ezines). It's a budget thing. I'd buy more new books if I could.

I don't read books, I consume them like a kid snarfing a chocolate bar. As much as I'd love to support authors, I can not afford to spend $20 on a book I'll finish in a day. I check out whatever I can from the library, and if they don't have what I want, I'll go the inter-library loan route. If that won't work, I buy used from Amazon. The only time I purchase something new is when I can't stand to wait 3 months to check out a new release from the library.
