This is the second post in what will be a continuing series called INDIE PUBLISHING FOR INTERNATIONAL WRITERS, a step-by-step guide for getting your stories into (digital) print. I’ll be doing each step with you, learning as you do, because I’ve never done this before either.

STEP 2: DESIGN YOUR COVER

Let’s face it, everyone judges a book by its cover, so if you have a bad one, people may never read your story.

Thanks for the post, dgaughran, that was really helpful.

Now, I also have a new post: A Fruitless Search. In it I introduce a new character, and what was going through her mind during the events of my novel, Harbinger.

Today's post (written last night actually) is about the news that is making headline all across the book-world:

E-books are now the #1 selling format in the U.S.

That's right, more than paperback. Wow.

More here on this, and what it means for writers, agents, and publishers: http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com

E-publishing just keeps sounding better and better! Thanks for the post, dgaughran. Given the amount of work that goes into it though (according to Amanda Hocking), I should probably finish at least a few books before I start heading down that road.

Speaking of roads and heading down them, in my blog today I introduce a new character who returns to where her journey started to learn of the disastrous effects it's had: http://harbingercodex.blogspot.com/2011 ... light.html

Today's blog post is about the unsung heroes of the publishing business: editors. I take a look at one of the most famous short stories, What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, and show how Raymond Carver's prose was shaped by Gordon Lish's editing. I wrap up by considering the future for editors in a digital world.

Today's post is the third in what will be a continuing series called INDIE PUBLISHING FOR INTERNATIONAL WRITERS, a step-by-step guide for getting your stories into (digital) print. I’ll be doing each step with you, learning as you do, because I’ve never done this before either.

STEP 3: EDIT YOUR STORY

Now that your cover has attracted readers inside to sample your writing, you better make sure your book is professionally-edited.

If your book is not professionally-edited, your sales will be affected. Most readers these days sample a work first. On Amazon, you can download a chunk of most books for free to see if you like it. The size of the sample is set by the author, but it’s usually around 25%.

Over the last ten days or so, we have tried to piece together a picture of the rapidly changing digital landscape, looking at the challenges facing the traditional houses, the rise of the digital tide, how the price of a book breaks out, piracy, and the sudden ascension of the e-book to being the #1 selling format in the U.S.

Today we talk about The 800 Pound Gorilla: Amazon - http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com

Today's story revolves around two new characters, one named Hrym in particular. His home was destroyed by the Harbingers, people he counted as friends. Here we see both his memories of the events since, and his views toward his former friends as well. Read more at http://harbingercodex.blogspot.com/
