Braille publishing rights

Post by MoiraYoung » March 10th, 2010, 1:55 pm

Quick question - Are braille publishing rights considered separate, or part of something else?

According to one of my braille-reading friends, they're part of electronic rights, "because in order to create braille files the person making the braille needs an electronic file", but I was curious if anyone happens to know for certain.

Edited to clarify: by "braille publishing rights", I'm talking about the braille version of any book sold to a publisher.

Braille and other rights related to serving the handicapped are often granted to publishers, though of course it depends on the contract.

Hm, interesting. It makes sense, since at my job we often go through the publishers to obtain their PDF and e-text files for our print-impaired students, but I wonder where that leaves authors who *want* to make their works available.

Thanks!
