Re: What are you writing now?
Thought I’d post an update about what I’m working on. I mentioned earlier that I was going to talk with Editor Alan Rinzler on the telephone for a consultation about my science fiction novel, GODS IN THE MACHINE. He had already read my novel and emailed me suggestions for possible revisions to it. We had an awesome conversation on the phone! I feel that Alan offered excellent suggestions: he thought that I should change several characters so that they would have roles in society more relevant to the political thriller aspect of my science fiction novel (that’s the best way I can describe it without giving away spoilers about the plot), that I should move the story farther into the future and develop more futuristic technology, and that I should write an outline for the revised novel. I don’t usually write outlines, but I’m going to follow Alan Rinzler’s advice to write one this time around, especially since he agreed to review the outline. It took me a while to think over how to even begin writing an outline, as I don’t usually do that. I’m FINALLY on a roll with this process! I plan to seriously buckle down next week, nose to the grindstone, and begin working very hard to complete the outline.

Re: What are you writing now?
I'm writing a fantasy/adventure for young teens up to young adults. It's about a brother and sister who's parents dissapeared when they were young and their journey to find them. It involves magic, which is probably cringe worthy to most people, but it's so much more fun to right about stuff that is impossible and making it believable! The main part of what I'm writing is the interesting characters, trying to create all of these unique characters which families and houses is v fun! Also, I love writing about the baddies, in my current story the reason the parents had to leave is in the form of Amethyst Bateesta, I love the whole scary baddie and getting to experiment with the character :)

I'm revising an urban fantasy YA and am partway through another (same genre). Also, I've been revising for way longer than it took me to write the book -- I'm almost finished though!
Re: What are you writing now?
I'm working on an expose of the many ways authors handicap their poor characters, and how a poorly written villian just might destroy the fictional world. Also, a romance. ;)
Or it's a humorous YA Fantasy. (Aiming toward 18-25 years old.) (And all writers, everywhere.)

I'm working on the first draft of a mystery/romance/contemporary western. I am so ready to be to the revision stage...
Re: What are you writing now?
I'm a fantasy girl, through-and-through. I read it, I write it.
Where I seem to differ is that I don't write for young audiences (much to my mother-in-law's chagrin). I write more like Dennis McKiernan and Terry Goodkind - epic fantasy that isn't pasteurized to be safe for teens. I strive for truth in my characters, even if that involves a litle swearing or intimacy. I really don't think someone would say "Oh, darn!" when facing down a 20-foot dragon bent on killing them.

Re: What are you writing now?
20 000 words into a fantasy based on the Tuatha De Danaan (the old gods of Ireland).
I studied a course, years ago, with the Uni of Dublin, which took students to the sites of the legends, but prior to that, I was raised by an Irish grandmother who knew the mythology, and passed it on.
Part of the story is actually autobiographical - yes, I lived with magic - and my childhood experiences ,combined with my studies, have never let go; they've demanded to be written . . . And you don't ignore the demands of the Tuatha De - they're not sweet and pretty Tinkerbells . . .

Right now I'm working on my second novel, called Dollie vs. Monster. It's my first stab at YA Fiction and I think its going really well so far! But then again...I'm barely 3,000 words in. haha
best of luck to you all and your WIPs!

Re: What are you writing now?
I thought I might never finish this ... A few minutes ago, I finally completed an outline for revisions to my science fiction novel that includes suggestions from Alan Rinzler: add a love story, add a happy ending, add more futuristic technology, bring the story farther into the future, add more characters with political roles for the political thriller thread, and get rid of some minor characters. I did it all. The outline’s done. I am so very, very happy! I emailed Alan Rinzler, and am now waiting to hear back from him. UPDATE: Heard back from Alan Rinzler who told me that I can send him the outline, so I emailed it to him. Looking forward to working with him!
