Do you have a new blog post?

Post by charlotte49ers » February 12th, 2010, 4:12 pm

I suck at using my Google Reader, but I check in here daily, so I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can post if we've updated our blogs.

:-)

I did one today on writing about love, which was part of the blog chain on the Absolute Write forum:

I have two, today, actually. Did one this morning about something that was nagging me last night, which turned out a lot worse on screen than it did in my brain (sleep probably didn't help), and posted one a little while ago because I found something which makes me squee. May possibly be a third tonight, if I go to the cinema and feel so inclined as to write up a review. My blog gets updated sporadically.

My usual Friday posting of "Honoria's Journal" - the ongoing story of one of my characters as a kid years before she's an adult in my WIP.

Interesting topic and blogs. I promise to read more of yours if you read mine. I'm up to a whopping 12 followers. Someone said in one of these forums that he had the feeling that he was talking only to himself, and boy, does that ring true. My idea was to simply post a couple-hundred words of dialog each day, experimenting with voice and story, trying to get as much disclosed through inference as I could. It's a fun thing to write most of the time, but I confess to being a little tired of it and being less imaginative in later posts. Today I posted my 41st post since the blog's creation in early January, but only because of your nudge. Thanks.

I have a blog on Michael Crichton, and in celebration of Valentine's Day yesterday, I wrote a post on an essay Crichton wrote about love:

Michael Crichton – Love is…

Very nice thread, Charlotte!

Daunting odds. You have to remember, though, that most of the tidal wave of stuff authors send out is unprofessional. Those submissions count in the stats, but not the competition.

Ditto Holly. It's a misleading statistic. From what I've read on a few agent blogs, the majority of queries are either so unintelligible or so off the wall that they're easily rejected.

Let's say I took 99 penguins and put them in a room with 1 pigeon, then I told you that only 1% of the birds could fly. That wouldn't surprise you, right? :-)

Edit: One more thing. Janet claims to request more full manuscripts than most agents, opting for a full instead of a partial many times. So her odds of acceptance don't surprise me either.

Just did up this thang, which, like just about everything else I do, nosedived at some point between my brain and the screen. Oh wells. The heart of it's still there I guess. Kind of.

I want to add a dollop of humbleness to my own post. Maybe my own queries will set off the Crap-O-Meter when I finally send them out. All I can do is take every possible step now to write the best story I can, plus ask/force/beg/bribe/pay umpteen million people to critique it before I press SEND.

I'm enjoying reading y'alls posts! I'm not a huge commenter, but I'll try to do better. :)

I posted a teaser from something new I'm working on. And when I mean new, I'm only a few paragraphs in. :-P The password (to all my teasers) is teasertuesday.
