Should pseudonyms be used in comparisons or actual names?

Post by mmorrow » October 12th, 2012, 10:35 pm

Hello Nathan,

When comparing a published author to your own work in a query letter, should you use the author's pseudonym or his actual name (if known)? Also, if this author's pseudonym was associated with a series, while the author himself only wrote the first book, would the answer to the first question still apply or should you just reference the series title?

Sorry if this question is a bit convoluted.

Thanks!

I'd go with whatever the author is known as, or the series title. Don't overthink this one, the agent's eyes are just going to graze over this part of the query anyway.
