What's Your Genre?
Re: Out of curiosity
I am a crossover writer. I write paranormal, new-adult (more than young adult), literary fiction, and experimental (but not so much anymore as I've found it more interesting to write about experimental characters than to play with structure).
All of my characters are in a discovery process and a lot include love stories.
But one or two could have a *shoe* (couldn't help that) in chick-lit. (I know it's a term that's gone out of favor, but it really is different than women's literature, that I can cross into too.)
Oh, God, and lately I've been writing about food!

Re: Out of curiosity
I write humor, prescriptive non-fiction, memoir, picture books and really bad poetry.
I'm not going to stop writing the poetry. There is nothing that gives me quite so much joy as writing poetry, I don't care if it's really bad, it is beautiful to me. :)

Re: Out of curiosity
I think one of my problems is that I don't have a genre per sé. I would call it chick lit because of my pull toward romance, but it varies between YA and Adult. I write what I read, and I want to try my hand at a contemporary romance. LOL I'll tell you how that goes!

Maybegenius--yeah, I saw your excerpt out on the critique thread. I liked it! My last NANWRIMO novel was steampunk-ish.maybegenius wrote:Speculative and contemporary YA. Currently working on a YA Steampunk novel ;)
Re: Out of curiosity
:) I too have authored a few really bad poems. Few author's make millions. Even fewer poets (are there any?). If you can't enjoy your own poems, there's not much of a point, is there?Mira wrote:I write humor, prescriptive non-fiction, memoir, picture books and really bad poetry.

Re: Out of curiosity
I write what I read. I'm an omnivore.
A poem I've worked on for years, published here and there off the beaten path, paper and digital. Just a bit of ars poetica (poetry about poetry or poetry writing, like metafiction for prose, self-meta-referential) doggerel.
It's a Muddle
As I stew here,
Brokenhearted,
Harshly started,
I dip in
Once and once again,
Study, wonder, ponder,
What I'll give--
What it takes
To fit in
Over yonder.

Re: Out of curiosity
I've written some historical fiction with some fantasy (OK a lot of fantasy) elements. I'm currently working on a historical fiction based on true events. No fantasy in this one. Hmm, perhaps I'm seeing a historical pattern here...
I'm in for the poetry thread, so long as you all can handle incipid drivel. I know how to rhyme. That's my poetry. Be forewarned.

Re: Out of curiosity
Historical fiction, so far. I have lots of ideas that cross over genre's, but one story at a time.
