A cup of humility in the morning
A cup of humility in the morning
I'm not going to lie to you people.
I thought I was different.
I thought I could do it on my own. My way. Boom baby.
but alas, the industry just mocks you. Throws your heart and soul back at you in a crumpled up form rejection.
It happens.
I come battered and bruised but ready to do it right. :)

Re: A cup of humility in the morning
Did you crumple up the rejection letter, or did they? Because that would be pretty mocking of the industry to crumple the letter and then send it to you.
Re: A cup of humility in the morning
it arrived in my email box crumpled. It was quite odd.

Re: A cup of humility in the morning
Some people say it's better to get rejected than ignored, but I think it's better to get ignored than have an agent print off your rejection, crumple it, and then scan it back in so he can show you he crumpled it.TheZies wrote:it arrived in my email box crumpled. It was quite odd.

Zies, be excited! At least you got rejected. You know someone read it!
A lot of people get nothing at all.
Was there any feedback?

Nigel and Zies, are you the same person? Because that was a funny exchange.

@wordranger: No, unfortunately there was no further feedback from the rejection letters. But you are right, it good to at least a response in some form!
@mira: No, we're not the same person. Glad you got a laugh though!

TheZies - in that case, sorry. I understand. I think we all had secret fantasies that the publishing industry will throw out the welcome mat when we first approached them. But it's important to remember, this is a very subjective industry.TheZies wrote: @mira: No, we're not the same person. Glad you got a laugh though!
There are many examples of books rejected multiple times by agents that went on to be spectacular sucess. Chicken Soup for the Soul was rejected 150 times before publication, for example. So, it's important not to let this discourage you, just take a rejection letter for what it is - one person's opinion.
Keep on writing! :)
